How To Alleviate Your Dogs Itchy Skin This Summer
Posted by Essential Dog on Sep 14, 2022
Dogs suffer from allergies particularly during the warmer weather and scratching and itching are more prevalent during these times.
We are often asked by
our customers for help with their dogs' sensitive skin. We have compiled
a small but highly effective list of at-home remedies we recommend for dogs
with itching, skin infections, rashes, allergies and abrasions.
If your dog is allergic
to grass and pollens, we suggest you wipe down your dog with a wet sponge,
particularly under the belly and paws when your dog comes into contact with
grass. This will help remove any pollens and allergens from your dogs
skin. You can use the sponge soaked with water as many times a day as you
like as it will not irritate the skin or remove any protective oils from the
skins surface.
If your dog is excessively itchy or has rashes and/or abrasions and you don’t have any itch sprays or remedies for your dog, we suggest you make a solution of herbal tea. You can do this by soaking the tea bag in mug of hot water. Allow it to cool and apply it to your dogs skin with a spray bottle or sponge. No need to rinse off. Herbal teas such a chamomile, green tea and even ordinary tea contains tannins that help to alleviate infection and inflammation. You could even add herbal tea bags to your dogs bath but this can get a little expensive! If you have any dried caledula flowers at home or calendula tea, this will works miracles on your dog shampoo for itchy skin as well as soothing inflammation and conditioning the skin and coat.
Another home remedy for your dogs itchy skin is to grind up oats very finely, put them in a cloth and add to your dogs bath. Oatmeal is excellent for relieving itching.
Use the wet bag of oats by squeezing it onto your dogs itchy spots and lesions.
We also have a sensitive
shampoo bar with colloidal oatmeal that will help and our Dermal
Scratch Spray and cream that contains all of these ingredients (and
more).
But if you have nothing on hand, these are a few things simply, but highly effective things you can use around your home to help with your dogs itching.
